Worked Example

Problem:
Two bodies collide and stick together. Find final velocity.

Given:

  • $m_1 = 2$, $u_1 = 3$
  • $m_2 = 1$, $u_2 = 0$

Solution

$$ v = \frac{m_1 u_1 + m_2 u_2}{m_1 + m_2} $$

$$ v = \frac{6}{3} = 2 \, \text{m/s} $$
