Velocity

Velocity describes how fast position changes with time.

Average Velocity

$$ v_{\text{avg}} = \frac{\Delta x}{\Delta t} $$

Instantaneous Velocity

$$ v = \frac{dx}{dt} $$

In vector form:

$$ \vec{v} = \frac{d\vec{r}}{dt} $$

Physical Meaning

  • Velocity gives both speed and direction
  • It is tangent to the path of motion
