What is Mechanics?
Mechanics is the branch of physics that studies the motion of objects and the forces that influence that motion. It is one of the oldest and most fundamental areas of physics, forming the basis for many other fields such as electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics.
At its core, mechanics attempts to answer simple yet profound questions:
- Why does an object move?
- What determines how fast it moves?
- Why does it stop?
- What causes changes in direction?
Although these questions may seem intuitive, their answers require careful reasoning and mathematical formulation.
Mechanics allows us to describe and predict motion in a precise way. Whether it is a falling apple, a moving car, or a satellite orbiting Earth, the same fundamental principles apply.
