Worked Example

Problem:
A body falls from height $10 \, \text{m}$. Find velocity before hitting ground.

Solution

Using energy conservation:

$$ mgh = \frac{1}{2}mv^2 $$

$$ v = \sqrt{2gh} = \sqrt{196} = 14 \, \text{m/s} $$
