Inertial vs Non-Inertial Frames

Inertial Frame

A frame in which:

  • Newton’s laws hold true
  • No acceleration is present

Examples:

  • A stationary frame
  • A frame moving with constant velocity

Non-Inertial Frame

A frame that is accelerating or rotating.

In such frames:

  • Newton’s laws do not hold directly
  • Additional forces must be introduced
